A stroll through Monéteau
carte de France We invite you to stroll around in our little, nicely flowered town of 5,000 inhabitants. Here you can discover the church with its three naves whose heart is in an ogival style, dating from the 12th century. You will notice one of the flat reliefs made of white marble, dating from the 17th century, that represents the suffering of Jesus. This relief is listed by the ministry of culture.

After this you might have a break in the churchyard, in the shade of the pavilion, admiring the fountain that runs night and day.

Then you might head towards the steelbridge, in style of Gustave Eiffel, whose exceptional
flowering is admired by everyone. The bridge offers a splendid view over the meanders of the river Yonne, which is often visited by fishers and amateur yachtsmen: playgrounds and picnic corners allow you to relax here.

Colbert Castle, flanked by its round tower on the south-western side and its park, as well as the wonderfully flowered Villa Montmerency, transformed into the town library and an exhibition hall, deserve that you linger there for a while.

If you have some more time, you should go and have a look at the stonebridge (Pont de pierre), situated on the RN 6 in direction of Auxerre, which spans the Baulche creek (Rû de Baulche). Dating from 1783, it is made up of two large surbased arcs and decorated with greek ornaments. Since April 1947, it is classified as a historical monument.

We wish you an enjoyable stay in Monéteau.

The Word of the Mayor
photo du maire
Situated in the exact middle of the Yonne department, as reminds the statue erected in the small village of Sommeville (Sommeville and Sougères are directly associated with Monéteau), Monéteau can be found in Burgundy, right between Paris and Dijon.

Reachable by the motorway A6 (exit Auxerre-Nord), the station and, since September the 1st 1999, connected with Auxerre by the urban bus line, Monéteau offers many opportunities for enterprises, craftsmen or shopkeepers who would like to settle down here.

A large number of areas in the business zones "Zone de Macherin", "Plaine des Isles" and "Terres du Canada" are still available and can allow a harmonic development of our town.

Additionally, a programme for rentable accomodation and for people to become home-owners has been initiated and will favour the possibility to welcome families desiring to benefit from a pleasant living environment.

Monéteau, agreeable town in bloom, has been awarded with a first flower by the regional jury, and we hope to receive a second one throughout this year.

Modern facilities like hotels and restaurants, ice rink, bowling, supermarkets, and not to forget the many medical services, such as surgeries, nurses, dentists, physiotherapists, chiropodists and speech therapists, complete the quality of life for the Monéstésiens and Sougérois people.

Finally, don't let me forget to mention the great variety of associated movements that exists thanks to voluntary work and the ceaseless engagement of the managerial staff. The different activities offered allow all people to enjoy themselves in the areas of sport and culture.

I would like to end with a strong thought for our German friends in the village of FÖHREN.

I wish you a warm welcome and an enjoyable stay in Monéteau. Feel free to contact me, the deputies mayor, or the members of the local council.

Economic activity
photo zone Halfway between Paris and Dijon, Monéteau, a town of 5,400 inhabitants on the outskirts of Auxerre, has the privilege to be situated in the centre of the Yonne department in Burgundy, which gives the city an ideal geographic setting, as it is on the road link Paris-Lyon-Marseille.
In fact, industrial enterprises, commercial and spare time ones of first rank have already settled down in the district. Let's mention for example Hermès Métal, Gagnier Cartonnages, Guyon, Acta Mobilier, Yoplait, CORA (supermarket), Aux 2B (bowling), Cyber-gl@ce (ice rink) and an important device of hotels and restaurants (see "Bed and Food")…

A Zone in Full Expansion :
The Business Zone "Macherin"

In order to develop its economical activity, Monéteau decided to create a privileged business zone (les Macherins) which spreads out over almost 90 hectares. This zone offers a number of advantages :
  • a close road network (The zone de Macherin is situated at the exit Auxerre-Nord on the A6)
  • plots in different sizes for attractive prices, very suitable for building (flat terrain)
  • a uniform business rate (taxe professionnelle) of less than 10 %
Between Monéteau and Auxerre :
"Les Terres du Canada" and "La Plaine des Isles"

Monéteau possesses also two other business zones, the so-called "Terres du Canada" and "Plaine des Isles". Both situated in the South of Monéteau (in direction of Auxerre on the D84), they are managed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Auxerre. This area, that spreads over more than 70 hectares, still offers available plots. If you would like to know more about this, please click here : CCI AUXERRE

Bed and Food

Thanks to the geographic setting, Monéteau is a pleasant place to have a break, eat or sleep there some nights.

All the more reason as there is an important device of hotels adjacent to the exit Auxerre Nord on the motorway A6 in the Macherin area.
